One of the topics we touched on in our presentation at the MAiZE Site Owner Conference was SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Once you have a completed website for the world to see, you want the world to see it.

When an internet user is looking for information about a topic, they usually use search engines such as Google and Ask, or directory services such as Yahoo to list the most relevant items that match their criteria. Then it’s our responsibility as website designers and you, as the owner of the site, to make sure the website is searchable.

One of the best sources for information about search engine optimization is Google itself. One of their articles discusses Search Engine Optimizers. Reading it, you will see that is not necessarily the way to go. Instead of using a third party to put your site out front, just use some simple techniques in the building of the site.

This article, Webmaster Guidelines, gives you the tips and techniques to make your site have more coverage by the search engines. A summary of the guidelines are in a page on this blog. Check out ‘Google Website Guidelines‘.

One of the best things a site owner can do is to review their site periodically. Look at the content to see if it’s up-to-date and accurate. Are the links still current and working? There is nothing worse than inaccurate content or broken links. Check out the links above and get aquainted with search engine optimization.

Don’t let you site fall to the bottom of the list.
